Do I Need Pet Insurance?

For many of us the number one relationship in our lives isn't always a person, it's actually our beloved pet! It may not be foremost on your mind but, at some point you will probably ask yourself "Do I need pet insurance?" If you consider what life would be like without having them around, I think the answer would would be a unanimous "Yes!"

Pet insurance is something that can prove to be very important if we value the long term well being of our household chums.

It is likely that putting money aside for expensive vet bills is not something that people budget for each month yet they are something that can come up at any point, because just like ourselves, there is no telling when illness or even death can strike. The fundamental difference is that sadly pets are more vulnerable to long term illness and without the right treatment they will spend their remaining days suffering.

With the right insurance plan you can rest assured that should your friend need medical treatment, or one of a range of unfortunate events occur, there is a policy available to safe guard both you and more importantly them.

Here are some points to show the potential benefits of having pet insurance:

  • Each year one in every 3 household pets injure themselves.
  • Cover can pay for any emergency visits to a vet that could potentially cost hundreds or even thousands of pounds.
  • Even minor conditions can be expensive when you visit the vet with your pet.
  • The cost of treatment on a fractured bone for a dog or cat in the UK far exceeds £1,000 !
  • Cover can pay for treatment of a condition over the chosen term.
  • Third party liability covers damage that your dog may cause to somebody or their property.
  • Third party liability also covers you in case somebody hits your dog with their car, any damage caused to the vehicle is the responsibilty of the dog owner!
  • General travel insurance does not cover your pet should you want to take them with you abroad, there is pet insurance to help with this scenario.
  • If you go to hospital who will look after your pet? Cover can pay for kennel or boarding fees to ensure they are looked after when you are unable to provide for them.
  • If you need to cancel a holiday at the last minute due to illness or an accident involving your pet, cover can pay for the resulting financial loss.
  • Cover can even contribute towards a reward if your pet goes missing!
  • It is only rumour that cats have nine lives, unfortunately they are just as fragile as other animals, everytime they venture outside they are at mercy of a busy world.

So whether it is the family dog, the children's rabbit, your dressage horse or even the more exotic of friends like a parrott, ask yourself once more do I need pet insurance and rest assured that there is cover available to ensure their long term health and your long term peace of mind.
